Meet Babel – VirtuLApp’s new mascot who made his entrance in Ghent….
We launched our first practical set of outcomes at a workshop on 17 & 18 October 2019 at LUCA School of Arts in Gent, Belgium. This 2-day event included the launch of VirtuLApp’s new quiz on multilingualism which is where we got to meet Babel who guides participants keen to check their general knowledge about languages and multilingualism. To get started, you simply need to click on the quiz icon here on our website, you can also take part in the quiz via our Facebook page. Our quiz is available in multiple languages,
Our workshop also included a talk about multilingual education from Prof. Orhan Agirdag (KU Leuven and the University of Amsterdam) in which he talked about the challenges of carrying out research into multilingualism in schools, using as a example the work he and his team have been doing on the e-validiv tool (only available in Dutch) which is a science learning VLE for Flemish schools that provides bilingual education in 7 languages.
We also included several practical sessions for everyone to find out more about augmented reality (provided by our partners in LUCA School of Arts) and how to create short video clips with your mobile phone (provided by our partners in ATiT). This practical approach continued on the second day with sessions on raising multi-language awareness (provided by our partners in Trinity College Dublin) and how translanguaging can be put into practice based on research carried out in Basque schools (provided by our partners in the University of the Basque Country).
Participants also got to watch and comment on the first video in our series of didactical videos showing best practice in classrooms and to have a sneak preview of the VirtuLApp AR-multiplayer game which will be available in Autumn 2020.
Save the date for our next workshop: 03-04-2020, Dublin
